Introduction

The Component Glossary is an exhaustive list of over 1300 medical-term components and their definitions. The glossary can be searched by prefix, suffix,  combining form, all components  or definition.  This learning tool is useful for locating the definition of a component or for finding a component to fit a particular definition. 

 

Component Search

When you start the Component Glossary program, the following screen will be displayed:

 

 

You may search the components to find definitions for a particular prefix, suffix or combining form. To do a component search, make sure the "Work With" box has "Components" selected. Next, choose the type of component for which you are looking in the "Show" box. Type in the  word you want to find in the "Search Components for" box. Select the type of search to be performed in the "Search Type" box and press the "Search" button. The list of words in the component-definition grid will display the results of the search.

 

The search types do the following:

 

Search Type	Results
Partial Match – Anywhere	Components with the letters you typed occuring anywhere in the word.
Partial Match - Beginning	Components with the letters you typed appearing as the first letters in the word.
Partial Match - Ending	Components with the letters you typed appearing as the last letters in the word.
Exact Match	Components which contain only the letters you typed. For exact matches, you must include the – for prefixes and suffixes, and the /o for combining forms

 

Definition Search

When you start the Component Glossary program, the following screen will be displayed:

 

 

you may search the definitions to find definitions which contain particular words. To do a definition search, make sure the "Work With" box has "Definitions" selected. Type in the  word you want to find in the "Search Definitions for" box. Select the type of search to be performed in the "Search Type" box and press the "Search" button. The list of words in the definition-component grid will display the results of the search.
