INTRODUCTION- Word Building

Exactly what is Medical Terminology? Most of us think of medical terminology as big, long unpronounceable words that only doctors can understand. Moreover, when we consider learning medical terminology, we think we have to spend hours memorizing those long unpronounceable words and their meanings.

What if I told you that you don’t have to spend hours memorizing long unpronounceable words and their meanings? What if I told you that you could learn medical terminology in 12 to 24 hours of study time? What if I told you that you already have knowledge of many medical terms? It’s all true!

First, most of us do know a fair majority of medical terminology without even realizing it. We’re all familiar with words such as arthritis, nausea, nasal, anemia, electrocardiogram, lens, kidney, Cat scan and hepatitis. We know that these words describe a condition, a body organ or a medical test. However, just knowing that these words are a medical condition or test is not enough when working in the healthcare field.

Second, medical terms are like jigsaw puzzles, but there’s no need to stay up at night for hours, memorizing medical terms and their meanings. With this course you’ll learn to break down the medical words using a technique called Word Building. Word Building explains how medical terms are built and formatted into words using a building block method. This method will take the average person 12 to 24 hours of study time to complete.

Lastly, Word Building will teach you how to analyze each medical term by dividing the term into its basic component parts; the prefix, the root word, and the suffix. Moreover, there are far fewer basic component word parts than there are medical terms, therefore the study time in learning these components is minimal.

Word Building gives you the tools to understand the meaning of each individual  component, the prefix, the root word, and the suffix, in medical terms. Once you’ve completed this course you will be able to comprehend many medical terms not presented in this short curriculum.
